Kick the cravings...

Did you know that cravings are often a sign of a nutritional deficiency?  That chocolate or those greasy, salty potato chips that call out to you every afternoon or evening could mean that your body needs magnesium or chromium or even tryptophan?

Top 10 Healthy Tips

There are some things that we should all be doing, no matter our situation.  Which of the following are YOU actively taking part in?  Which ones will you try?

1  Drink plenty of water!

The average person needs to drink at least half of his/her body weight in ounces each day.  More for very active individuals.  (example: 150lbs, 75 ounces, or a little more than 1/2 gallon)

2  Eat your greens!

Dark, leafy green vegetables are the most nutritious foods available...and the most neglected.  Strive to eat at least 2 servings (about 2 cups) per day.   Kale, spinach, parsley, bok choy, Romaine lettuce, Swiss chard...what's your favorite?

3  Eat plants!

It is recommended that we all eat 7 to 13 servings of fruits and vegetables EVERY DAY (and heavier on the veg).  A servings is about the size of your fist.

4  Make the switch!

Make the switch from regular table salt to Himalayan salt or sea salt.  You'll need less. Use salt to enhance the natural flavors of foods rather than make them "salty".  Try REAL Brand sea salt or Himalayan Pink. 

5  Get complex!

Learn the difference between simple and complex carbohydrates.  Enjoy complex carbs more often - whole grains, beans and other legumes, vegetables, and more!

6  Fill up with fiber!

A woman should consume about 35 grams of fiber from food per day.  A man, about 45 grams.  A diet rich in fresh vegetables and fruits, whole grains, and things like nuts and seeds will help you reach your requirement.

Don't fret fat!

The human body needs good fats for health and to work properly and efficiently.  Choose high quality, healthy fats such as coconut oil, Ghee, extra virgin olive oil, olives, nuts, avocados and others.  And learn how to use them properly!

Get wild!

If you eat animal protein, be sure to learn about quality.  Choose wild or sustainably farmed seafood, grass-fed/pasture raised beef, bison and poultry.  Remember...we eat what our meat eats!

Ditch the dairy!

Humans do not require cow's milk.  It is very acidic and mucus-forming to the body and studies show that women who drink the most milk have the highest rate of osteoporisis and hip fractures!

Say NO to GMO!

Food should be food, not altered to be something else.  If GMO foods can kill the pests that bother them, or withstand massive amounts of weed-killer, what can they do to the human body??
